I wrote a post last week for the How To Be Rich and Happy site called ‘Pay It Forward’. It was inspired by the actions of GM Baker who after reading her copy of How To Be Rich and Happy then wrote a message inside the cover saying:
“If you find this book, the it is meant for you. When it changes your life, like it did mine, please pass it on” – GM Baker 7/01/10
She then took a photo of it and left the book in the seat pocket on her flight for somebody else to find and benefit from.
One of the things we all require to make positive lasting change, is belief. Belief that it’s not just possible to change, but that we can actually implement and make that change happen.
When clients first sign up with me for Life Coaching I’ll often want them to set the bar on their expectations from the process very high. It’s always a bit of a gamble because if I ask a client to aim for 10 and we hit 8, they’ll probably not be as happy as if we aim for 6 and hit it.
The point though is to shift their mindset from day 1. To help them believe they can have whatever it is they want because if I can do that, I make a successful outcome exponentially more likely.
Currently, other then sales, we’ve primarily been distributing the books in cases of 60 for logistical purposes, but GM’s actions led me to take stock and think of doing things a bit differently.
If you were the person that found her book on the Delta flight and you read the message, what do you think the impact would be?
As human beings we’re always looking to make sense out of the haphazard. Our brains don’t do well with randomness and we’ll often go looking for patterns or reasons why things are as they are.
My guess is that there’s an excellent chance the person finding the book GM left will believe fate put them in that seat for a good reason and that book truly is meant for them. Thus they are even more likely to read the book (or pass it on) than if they bought it themselves.
I really have no idea if a supreme being is conspiring away on our behalf, but it would be nice to think so, and anyway, who cares if it’s true as long as it creates action?
Since then I have been carrying books with me wherever I go and leaving them in restaurants, stores and even bathrooms! with notes inside telling the finder the book is theirs and is meant for them and asking if they’ll pay it forward when they have read the book and leave it for the next person.
I want to take this to the next level today by looking to spread the net a bit further.
I have a case of 60 books that I am going to giveaway between now and the end of July through A Daring Adventure for the cost of shipping only.
If you’d like a copy and there’s genuinely no way you could afford to pay full price then you are the kind of person we want to help, so let me know and I’ll get one to you.
I’m totally confident you get what we’re doing here and you’ll treat this offer with respect and not exploit it as a way of getting something for nothing.
Better still, do you know somebody that really could benefit from the book that I can send one to? Maybe it’s a friend or family member that has been struggling a bit either financially, physically or emotionally and really could use the leg up that How To Be Rich and Happy can provide?
Here’s what I’d like you do in either case. Make a donation to the rich and happy project of $3.95 via PayPal to cover shipping and I’ll send you, or the person you want to help, a hard copy of the book. I must limit this to the US* with the hard copy, but I’m happy to send the e-book anywhere.
All I need you to do is go to the How To Be Rich and Happy site and make the donation via the PayPal donate button in the right side bar.
After you have done that, e-mail me the receipt to tim at a daring adventure dot com with the details of the person I am to send the book to.
Note: We’re always on the lookout for people with blogs, newsletters etc that can review How To Be Rich and Happy. If that’s you or anybody else you know, let me know and I’ll get a copy to you.
* I will send overseas if you can contribute $10 as that is about what it costs.
Rich and Happy Guest Posters Wanted
We’ve decided that we’d like to start taking the occasional guest post for the How To Be Rich and Happy site. Ideally we’re looking for rich and happy stories rather than pure self development, so bear that in mind if you send me something.
Normal service will be resumed later this week when I post ‘Life Lessons Learned from Life Coaching’.

Thank you for this very generous offer, but the Paypal link is broken! :(

Yeh not sure what’s happening there, so I made the link go to the HTBRAH site where the PayPal button is.
Thanks a lot for the heads up Lavonne because it worked when I published and then presumably timed out.
I’m racking my brains to think of some people who could use a copy of this because I’m loving what I’ve read so far. My sister in law can borrow my copy when I’m done so that’s her out. Leave it with me, I’ll scratch the brain cells and see what pops out.

Scratch the brain cells and see what pops out eh? Well be sure to film it for YouTube.
Of course. I’ll even edit it in iMovie and add some entertaining captions and daft canned laughter. ;)

I have a blog, and I’d love to review your book. I’m in Canada, so I don’t know if you’d consider shipping the same as overseas. Please let me know!

Happy to either e-mail you a copy of the ebook Lana, or if you’d donate $5 mail you a hard copy.
Tim, I am still working through the book, but when I am done, I will be doing a video review for YouTube and my blog. Just thought I’d give you a little update. Cheers!
No worries mate and thanks for the heads up!
Hi Tim,
I just sent you the $5 donation and can’t wait to read the book!!!
Thanks!
Lana
The book’s on its way.
Hi Tim,
I have always wanted to read this book of yours, but I find that some books don’t make it to India at all, and often times, the price is prohibitive. So when I saw your email in my inbox, it gave me an opportunity I wouldn’t have, otherwise!
If I could receive an e-book version of HTBRAH, I’d love it!
Thanks for such a great offer! :)
Please send me the e book by email.regards n thanks
Sant
Did you actually read the post?
I just made my $5 donation … and I have to say that this is incredibly timely. I think I may have stumbled upon what I might like to do for the rest of my life this morning, and I am broke and the title of this book pretty much sums up how I would like to life my life.
I can’t wait to read this, and you can bet that I will be writing about it on my blog as well!
