As I get more experience dealing with people this side of the pond I am starting to build up a mental list of the differences between Life Coaching in Orlando, Florida and Life Coaching in the UK. Some of them have surprised me and some haven’t but it is interesting to note cultural differences.
Stress issues and work life balance problems were the most common issues clients came to me with in the UK. Over here I see a lot more people with procrastination problems and dissatisfaction with their careers’. I am sure that some eager post-graduate Physcologist could make hay with those findings but I’m not really sure what to make of them myself. A good job I didn’t go into psychology then I guess.
There is one common denominator though with both nationalities and that can be summed up like this:
“That sounds really interesting and I am sure that it works for everybody else but it wouldn’t work for me.”
I may not get those exact words very often but I get something similar or at the very least that LOOK frequently.
There are certain truths that are pretty much set in stone, the earth is almost round, water is wet, if you drop a melon of a high building it will go splat and you will feel like crap the next day if you drink 25 bottles of beer. Almost everything else is up for grabs.
So what makes one thing attainable to one person and not to another? Is it their ability? No. Is it their age or how much money they have? No. Is it their genes? No. Oh, I know, is it the family they were born into? No.
One thing and one thing only dictates how successful you will be in any venture and that is your belief system.
If you believe a medicine wont cure you from your serious illness it probably wont. If you believe that the word is unfair then it probably is. If you think that it is impossible for you to quit smoking then guess what? It is.
So if you want to make beneficial changes to your life then the starting point is believing you can or at the bare minimum believing you may be able to. If you don’t think you can do that alone hire a life coach. If you know you can’t do it at all, then congratulations you just proved yourself spectacularly right, you can’t. Bet you’re glad you won that argument.
