Probably once or twice per year I’ll ask people on my Facebook page what their favorite self development book of all time is or even what is the self development book that has most positively influenced their life.
On the Coaching Books page of the Coach the Life Coach website I have started building a page of high quality self development and Life Coaching books.
I’m too lazy to count, but I’m guessing there are about 70 books listed and pretty much all of them are dripping with sweet awesomeness.
They are broken up into classifications to make it easier to search and they are:
- Life Coaching Skills
- General Self Development
- Positive Psychology and Happiness, Social Psychology
- Cognitive Biases, Neuroplasticity and Decision Making
- Spirituality and Meditation
- Time Management and Productivity
Any normal person would create a list from their own personal library, but I have a tendency to give books away when my one and only book shelf gets full.
As such I have a small collection of books I really love and the others are scattered to teh four winds.
As I’ve probably read hundreds over the last dozen years or so I’m sure I’ve missed some total classics.
What’s Your Favorite Self Development Book Then?
So I’m curious to know what is the ONE self development book that you either most enjoyed or had the greatest impact on your life.
And make sure it’s in a positive way, somebody dropping a copy of ‘Think and Grow Rich’ on your head from four stories resulting in a months stay in hospital is not what I’m looking for.
I don’t care who wrote the book or how old it is, I just care that it meant a lot to you.
Having said that, don’t go fro some really obscure book that neither I nor 99% of the people who read here will never have heard of.
What’s In It For You?
Update 10/5/13 The competition is now closed, but you are welcome to still leave your choice.
Well firstly you get to share useful information with other people and can feel all warm and fuzzy for doing so.
Secondly, if you recommend a book not already on the list and I deem worthy (yes I am on a power trip now) either because I have read it and just forgot or on reputation alone, I shall throw you (metaphorically) into a draw for (drum roll maestro please).
One of the following:
A free session with me in which I’ll take you through a values session. Or if that’s of no interest we’ll just chew the fat, shoot the breeze or have a natter. That would cost you $250 under normal circumstances.
A copy of all my books including the Life Coaches version of Aligning With Your Core Values that retails for $99 and even a hard copy of How To Be Rich and Happy if you live in the US and want it (no exceptions with this, not even Canada because I have to get a customs form and block out 2 days at my local post office waiting to be served!)
I’m going to add a new classification of ‘Health’ because I see health as fairly important to self development.
In my experience dead people make terrible clients – they don’t pay on time, they rarely do the homework and they insist on trying to eat my brains.
In other words, books on health will be considered as long as they are general life style.
So no books on juicing or diets that insist you only ever drink wild mountain organic decaffeinated water for a month and eat goat droppings. I tried that one and it didn’t work.
So don’t sit there staring into space and wondering if you can slip “Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay in (you can’t, it’s total crap) leave me a comment and enlighten me.
Remember though, if you want to win one of the prizes it has to be a book not already on the page.
