Fresh from my discovery that my long-term aim is to be able to help kids succeed by using some of the life coaching techniques that I now use with adults, I trotted off to get myself a suitable domain name for future use.
I had a list of 10 names when I logged onto Network Solutions and one criterion that was to get a .com rather than a .org or .net. I use Network Solutions because they already host my website www.adaringadventure.com and my newsletter (The Discomfort Zone) uses the Constant Contact software owned by Network Solutions. I realize that domains can be had slightly cheaper elsewhere but I know that this company is reputable and that if I need to move them they wont start hitting me for a domain relocation or release fee.
So I started entering the different domains and kept getting ‘unavailable’ One after another after another until I was down to the ‘ok this will have to do if I am really desperate and there is nothing else’ pile. Yet still the names had gone until eventually I was left with no more options.
I was very surprised and a tiny bit aggravated so I started looking to see what these sites had to offer.
Every single one was an affiliate site.
Every single one.
There were no sites offering information on coaching kids but they were all stacked with ads trying to sell me everything from insurance and cosmetic surgery to health care and vacations. What in heavens name is a site called kidcoaching.com (please if you check this site out do NOT click on any of the ads, I would hate to think I was helping propagate this nonsense) doing offering web hosting, business coaching, shopping, broadband and a lot of other non-related stuff?
The people that run these sites are parasites in my humble opinion. They offer no value and they help screw up the Internet. The Internet is based on relevancy and these sites help kill that because they realize that 99 out of 100 people are looking for something on coaching kids when they type in kidcoaching.com but they don’t care. They get free hosting from companies like Go Daddy and so even if they only get 20 bucks a month it’s a profitable business, especially if they have another 100 sites.
I see no difference between these people and spammers, in fact they are the same in my book because they are simply looking to make a quick buck for doing very little and don’t care what the consequences are.
