Life Safari by John P Strelecky
As I forwarded several copies to life coaching clients last Christmas I am hoping there are some of you reading this that have had the pleasure of reading ‘The Why Café’ by John Strelecky. I have to confess that I am a sucker for parables and as such loved this book and the message within.
Now John has released his long awaited second novel ‘Life Safari’ and I do believe that he has surpassed The Why Cafe.
Life Safari follows the story of a young man (Jack) who has pursued his calling of seeing Africa the way it should be seen – by foot. On arrival he realizes he need the services of a guide if he is to do this properly and with some hesitation decides to hire a very old but very wise local women called Ma Ma Gombe. Thus the two set off together with months of walking in front of them and with Jack’s desire to see the ‘Big Five’
Johns use of the ‘Big 5’ as a metaphor for success in life is really at the core of the book and is certain to set the reader thinking about his or her own life. Seldom in our hectic lives do we take time to stop and really think about what it is we are doing and why we are doing it never mind really thinking about what we need to do, see or experience for us to believe our life has been a success. I believe Life Safari can help you do this and my only reticence in recommending it is that the more people read this (like The Why Café) the less people need my services.
I highly recommend this book not only because of its important underlying message but because it’s also a damn fine read.
I intend to do a longer review in my August or more likely September newsletter so sign up here now.
Note: The phrase Big Five game was coined by big-game hunters and refers to the five large mammals that were sought in Africa. The term is still used in most tourist and wildlife guides that discuss African wildlife safaris and refers to lions, rhinoceros, elephant, leopard and buffalo.
