Life Coach Learns Public Speaking Shocker!
I used to do a lot of presenting when I was in sales. Sometimes it was to one man in a shed, and other times it was to a board of directors. I was ok at it and did well at sales from a financial standpoint. Then about 5 or 6 years ago I started to get really stressed doing any form of public speaking. In fact, it was one of the things that drove me towards looking for a life coach of my own.
Fast-forward to today and that is all behind me now. I’m not saying I bound on stage like Jay Leno on crack, but I don’t have the level of apprehension I used to, and I also enjoy it when I get going now.
Toastmasters has to take a great deal of the credit for getting ‘me up there’ again but I have done some work myself using NLP and life coaching tricks that I had previously used on clients but never on myself. Bad coach!
I know that I have taken it up a notch further by recently enrolling on a fantastic public speaking course/workshop thingy here in Orlando. An ex-Toastmaster Champion, Andy Dooley runs it, and it has been positively inspirational. As well as being great fun, Andy dishes out some of the real juicy tips of the trade, especially the good ones about being funny. He is also a motivational guy and has a real ‘go for it attitude’
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Andy to anybody that wants to improve his or her skills and become funnier on stage. It’s a lot less difficult than you may imagine and a blast too boot. In fact I have dropped a link from my sire to his because I know he can ad a great deal of value for anybody that needs to get up and speak, whether it is to 100 people or 5 team members every blue moon. The website is worth visiting if only for the hilarious video on the home page of his meeting with Tony Robbins.
