The Big Five For Life

Posted on 5 February 2007

I read a book recently called The Why Café  (I intend to review the book in my February newsletter, so if you are interested, sign up on my home page www.adaringadventure.com). I was so impressed by the book that I contacted the author John P Strelecky to see if I could sell it or affiliate market it through my website. To cut a long story short I ended up meeting John for breakfast last week and then attending a 2-day workshop/seminar he was leading here in Orlando.

As a personal coach I really enjoy hearing other ideas and thoughts on personal development because let’s face it there’s nothing new out there, just different slants on the same stuff, right? Well kind of, but I do think John has come up with something that is as close to being new as anything I have seen or read about in recent years.

I guess Johns system for want of a better word, is an advanced form of goal setting but I think there are 2 things that set it apart from traditional methods. Firstly, there is a huge emphasis on success being gauged by the individual. People all too often discern success by the rules that society has imposed rather than any deep internal belief of what it means to them as an individual. So it is not unusual for people with lots of money and/or power being considered successful even if they are miserable and lonely, which seems crazy to me and obviously to John too.

The other aspect of Johns ‘Big Five For Life’ is the emphasis it puts on people working together. So therefore if you have a life long ambition to learn NLP then I am sure that I could help point you in the right direction and in turn maybe you know somebody that can help me move toward one of my goals. When you have almost 50 people in a room it is amazing to see the coincidences that pop up as Person A suddenly realizes that Person B is exactly the right person that they need to speak to to help them move toward one of their ‘Big Five For Life’

I have left a lot of the meat off the bones and I am probably not doing the weekend justice, as it was an excellent workshop that I would highly recommend. I would also encourage you to read more at http://mybigfive.com/ and if you can afford it, buy the 2 cd set to help you on your way.

We only have one shot at this life and there is nothing sadder than not making the most of it or living with regret. If you follow the ‘Big Five For Life’ principles I am sure that you will start to move toward living the life of your dreams rather than hoping that someday it will move toward you.
