Soften
Posted on 31 July 2007
I was watching the brilliant Dr. Richard Bandler on DVD the other day. It was a programme he recorded in the UK where he demonstrated rapid hypnotic inductions. As co-founder of NLP Dr Bandler has 35 or so years experience and he has so much stage presence and charisma that he is truly peerless in my humble opinion.
This post isn’t about the programme per se more about one tiny word that I heard him use on at least 2 or 3 occasions when people were in hypnosis. I have heard him use this before but for some reason it never resonated with me. It did this time.
Soften.
What a beautiful word that is. Imagine if we could use that word more in our everyday lives. What if we could soften out language, soften our muscles, and soften our approach toward other people?
I know it doesn’t sound that profound but I believe it is. If you read my post from last week entitled ‘Don’t wait until your dead to relax’ you will realize that we all tend to carry tension and muscular stress around with us to the point that we think it is normal. It may indeed be normal in so much as we all do it, but it’s not helpful most of the time and we can all benefit from reducing that tension. If you soften you can.
The same goes for our interaction with others; it doesn’t take much softening of our attitude in difficult situations to make things easier and people less antagonistic towards us.
Try it out for a week or so and see what a difference it can make to your life.
