Musings on Meditation, Manifesting and Monkeys

Posted on 14 July 2007

It took me some while before I actually started to enjoy meditation and not look upon it as a chore that I needed to get done. When you think about it, I’d be surprised if there was anything much more ridiculous in life than thinking taking time out for yourself and slipping the shackles of time is a chore, but I guess that is how modern living tends to be when we hand over control of our lives to outside forces.

I don’t expect that I am the only life coach that is eternally grateful for the arrival in the public consciousness of the movie The Secret (Extended Edition). It isn’t simply the message within the film that I am grateful for most but more the shift it has created in peoples thinking and attitude.

Two years ago back in the UK I bet I didn’t talk to more than 20% of my clients about manifesting and meditation. Whereas in some part that was down to the fact that I was still learning about it and tended to lean more towards self-hypnosis rather than meditation anyway, it was more largely due to the receptivity of my clients. Maybe it was those stuffy Brits that were all a bit anally retentive or maybe it was simply that it needed something like The Secret to come along and kick people into awareness.

So now rather than never mentioning all these really cool, very old and highly beneficial practices, I just have to ask clients ‘Have you seen The Secret?’

If they nod their head enthusiastically I know I can jump in headfirst because if they are a believer in manifestation and the law of attraction then selling meditation should be a snap! And so it almost always is. That one shift created by a movie has suddenly opened people up to another universe of alternative ideas and I think that is absolutely fantastic.

By the way, there have been no monkeys or any other primates for that matter in this Blog. If you only read this to read up on our cute and cuddly cousins I do apologize but I was on an alliteration roll when I typed the title….sorry.
