Listen To Yourself

I have a couple of prospective clients that I have been talking to via e-mail for some while now. Neither seems to be able to make a decision about whether life coaching is right for them and seem to swing backwards and forwards, from yeh let’s do it to the eerie silence of cyber oblivion. I do understand this and I am in no way condemning them, after all I took 5 years to decide I really did want to leave the UK and move to the US!
I would however like to give them and you a piece of advice that is probably worth a year’s salary on its own.
When in doubt, go with your gut instinct.
When was the last time you had a gut instinct that you felt strongly about and it was wrong? My guess is you are struggling to think of one.
So let me ask you this. When was the last time you overrode your gut instinct and you later regretted it? I bet you can think of several examples.
Most people treat gut instincts like they are some sort of bolt from the blue that cannot be treated seriously. They rationalize them away with ‘logical and analytical thought because that is the way they were taught to make decisions.
Gut instincts are no more or no less than your unconscious mind sending you a signal. Your unconscious mind can deal with thousands of things at once and make accurate decisions in a snap, whereas your conscious mind can only deal with 7 + or – 2 things at any one time. There really is no competition. Think of your conscious mind as being the RAM on your computer and your unconscious mind being your hard drive and you get an idea of what I mean.
I understand we can make mistake by going with our gut instinct but I also believe that we can make a lot more by constantly overruling and ignoring it.
Note: For regular readers I know I blogged about this some while ago but I felt strongly and strangely compelled to do it again. It just felt right, do you know what I mean? ;-)
