Life Coach Working On Christmas Day - Shock, Horror!!

Posted on 25 December 2007

I feel almost embarrassed to be writing this post. After all I am a life coach that purports to help people with work life balance issues and yet I’m working on Christmas Day!!!  I know, I know, the Hypocrite Police should be beating my door down as I type, but unfortunately they are on holiday with the rest of the world so I’m still here typing away.

How do I explain myself? How do I retain a shred of dignity and credibility with such fraudulent behavior?

The answer is twofold and it takes me back to a conversation I had with my wife a few months ago. It was about 8.30pm and we had just finished dinner and I said I was going to write a Blog. I got an eye-roll and a comment that went something like this “How is that different from when you worked in sales and were working stupid hours?” I was stuck for a moment as it looked like I had just been hoisted very firmly by my own rather tight fitting petard. Then it occurred to me that it was way different for two reasons.

Firstly, I didn’t feel compelled to do it, there was nobody cajoling, threatening or insisting that I do it, and secondly, I wanted to do it, it was fun for me and something I looked forward to. I am in a situation now where I’d do what I do for free if I didn’t need the money. I am in a job that makes every day seem like a day off. I’m not in it for the money, jeez I could triple my wages overnight if I went back into selling, but I don’t want to.

Not only do I like doing this and therefore it never feels like work, but also my wife is a nurse and she IS at work so it’s just the dog and me. She gets home about 2ish and then I’ll start to do more traditional Christmas day activities with family and some friends. Until then, I’ll continue to post, read other blogs and generally enjoy myself by doing what I love to do.

I hope you have a wonderful day, Merry Christmas.
