Let Me Tell You A Secret
Posted on 9 February 2008
During your time on this planet you’ll get sick, you’ll lose money and you’ll get into irrational arguments. You may well lose a job or at least fail an interview and you’ll probably take at least one exam where you don’t do as well as you’d have liked. You’ll vote for bad politicians, you’ll make a fool of yourself and you will say things you wished you hadn’t. You’ll make poor choices, break things by mistake and stub your toe. You’ll lose valuable possessions, accidentally fart in public and worry about things out of your control. You’ll make inaccurate assumptions, offend people without meaning to and get ripped off. You’ll experience loneliness, get overwhelmed and feel dog-tired for no logical reason. You’ll forget to do stuff, get dumped and cringe when you see old pictures of yourself. You’ll eat terrible meals, get headaches and curse your hairdresser.
Do you want me to go on?
A lot, if not all, of those things will happen to you purely and simply because you’re a human being. No matter how much you plan, how careful you are and how much you clench your buttocks, **** happens.
It’s not what happens to you that’s important, but how you deal with it.
On average you have about 27,500 days on this planet and a good amount of that time has already passed you by. So with the clock ticking, do you want to kill time and just get through the day bemoaning your bad luck and feeling miserable? Or do you want to start to enjoy life and accept that it doesn’t always go according to plan, but what the heck, you’re gonna take pleasure wherever you can?
