How Do You Relax?

Posted on 13 June 2007

Today I would like to offer for your consideration two forms of relaxation and let you decide which one is best suited for you.

The first one will cost you a fair bit of money not just to set up but ongoing too, in fact I would say that if you cannot invest at least $50 per month then it’s probably not going to happen. I also think that you will need to invest a minimum of $500 to set everything up and $2,000 is probably more realistic. This will then allow you to relax when you get in from work. Of course you are not guaranteed relaxation, in fact it could add to your stress levels significantly if you are not careful. You will not really feel much better from this type of relaxation and it can also numb you’re mind if you are not careful, but hey, c’mon what do you expect, this is the 21st century?

Contrary to that I can offer you something else that is absolutely free. There are no ongoing costs and no maintenance. This form of relaxation has been proved to contribute to lengthening life, improve cognitive ability, promote peace of mind and help sleeping patterns. It is easy to do and has a cumulative beneficial effect with no negative side effects that I know of.

So which are you going for?

Of course if those were the only facts available to you and didn’t try to read between the lines you would pick number 2, it’s really the only sensible option.

In the real world however and when I tell you (as if you haven’t already guessed my astute reader) that number one is TV and number two is meditating then you will almost certainly take the TV.

I have no objection to TV, in fact I love it. I enjoy my sports especially soccer and football, I like to watch a good movie and enjoy stuff like House and 24. What I no longer do though it switch the tv on for no good reason or sit and vegetate in front of it in the name of relaxation even when there is nothing I particular enjoy watching.

When I talk to clients about meditating the response I get 4 times out of 5 is that ‘I don’t have time’ I have a stock answer to this and it is ‘yes you do’ It’s that simple, honestly it is. I don’t care who you are you have time to meditate if you want to. You don’t need to allocate an hour out of your day, 10 minutes is better than nothing and it can be done pretty much anywhere or anytime. You may not choose to make time to meditate but that is not the same as not having any time. You my dear reader have exactly the same 24 hours in a day as I do and you can watch re-runs of re-runs, fear inducing news programmes or chill out with some meditation time. The choice as always is yours.

There is a meditation course here in Orlando on Saturday, June 23rd, if you would more information contact me here.
