Does Your Life Coach Have A Life Coach?

Somebody asked me the other day whether I had a life coach. I think they were expecting me to say no and seemed surprised when I said I had. Why wouldn’t I use a coach? What message would I be sending to prospective clients by admitting I don’t buy my own product? It’s like the Hyundai salesperson that drives a Toyota, not very reassuring at all. 

 

The person in question asked me whether or not I had the tools to coach myself. Well the answer to that is yes and no. No doubt Tiger Woods has the tools and abilities to teach himself also but he also realizes that a coach can sometimes see things that he cant no mater how many video cameras he has trained on himself. Peyton Manning is probably the best Quarterback in the NFL at the moment but he will still work on technique with his QB Coach most days.

 

I use a coach to help with goal setting and maintaining focus. I like the fact that I am answerable to somebody else and I am much more inclined to follow through with tasks when I make promises to another person. If truth me known I can get seduced quite easily by the warm sunshine and a cold beer when maybe I should be doing some writing or admin type work.

 

I am posting this because the conversation came just after I got a phone call from somebody in Miami looking for a coach. I prefer face-to-face coaching and I think the person was really looking for that too. That’s not to say that telephone coaching can’t be successful because it can be, it’s simply a personal choice. The lady in Miami asked me if I could refer anybody and I said I really didn’t know anybody operating in Miami. I did though refer her to my website and the page entitled ‘Choosing A Coach’ I said if she followed that advice she should be fine.

 

Later I went to have a look what I had written because it was some while ago now and was surprised that I hadn’t asked ‘Do They Have Their Own Coach?” I think I need to put that on there at some stage. At the very least if you ask that of a potential coach it would be interesting to hear their response.
