A New Way To Fall Asleep?

Although I am a trained hypnotherapist I don’t use self-hypnosis more than once or twice a week. That is not because I don’t think it is valuable just that I prefer meditation as a form of quieting the mind. My wife whilst not working in the life coaching field is a qualified NLP Practitioner and as such has had basic hypnotherapy training.

She doesn’t tend to meditate in fact between you and me I think she thinks I’m a bit mad, especially if I start chanting Om from the spare bedroom, but that’s another matter.

She has another strategy for relaxation that I only really found out about yesterday when she advised me she was going to do some self-hypnosis and I was to wake her up in 25 minutes.

I nodded in agreement as I was writing at the time and then after this message had bounced off numerous satellites en route to my brain it suddenly sunk in what she had said. Why on earth would she need me to wake her up if she was in hypnosis? One of the strange things with self-hypnosis is that if you tell you unconscious mind what time you want to finish your internal clock will bring you back out pretty much on the nail.

By the time I had filtered all this through my mind I presumed she had started so I left her to it for 25 minutes. Then when the time was up I went to see what was happening. She was up and about and when I questioned her as to why she asked me to wake her she said that she wasn’t doing a hypno (which is what we shorten it to) but a kipno!

So now we have a new form of relaxation (at least in our household) called Kipnotherapy, which effectively means you start a self-hypnosis process, but allow yourself to drift off to sleep when you begin to feel deeply relaxed. At first I was incredulous and thought it was a waste of time, but then I started to think it might be a cool idea to try out with people that are struggling with insomnia.

That’s as far as I have got at this point but I thought I would share that price of earth-shattering news with you so when Kipnotherapy makes it big time you know where it all started.
